Carly Flynn
Broadcaster | MC | Communications Specialist
About Carly
Carly Flynn is one of New Zealand's most familiar broadcasting faces, with three decades of reporting, television and radio hosting behind her. Warm, curious and unflappable, she is at her best drawing stories out of people and making a room feel connected.
Originally from Taupō and now based on Auckland's North Shore, Carly today combines MC and hosting work with a part-time corporate role in communications and events, alongside freelance media work. That mix means she arrives at an event understanding both sides of the microphone, the run sheet as well as the story.
Career Highlights
Carly knew she wanted to be a journalist from childhood and enrolled in Wintec's Bachelor of Media Arts at 16, later adding a Diploma in Journalism. She began in print with the Herald's community newspapers, moved into radio, then reported, presented and produced regional news for Prime TV in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty. A stint in Dublin followed, working for Newstalk 106 and the pop show You're a Star, before she returned home to join 3 News as a reporter.
Across more than 20 years on screen she has hosted news and entertainment programmes including Nightline, Sunrise, 3 News, Newshub Late and Prime News. She fronted TV3's flagship consumer affairs show Target, and presented Cook the Books, Get Growing and The Healthy Food Guide. She has also read news and hosted radio across a range of MediaWorks stations, served as New Zealand correspondent for Al Jazeera International, and written columns on lifestyle and home.
She was a finalist for Best Television Presenter at the New Zealand Film and Television Awards.
As an MC
Carly is an experienced MC for conferences, awards evenings, panels and gala dinners. Years of live television and breaking news mean she is comfortable with an autocue, an unscripted moment or a schedule that slips, and she keeps an audience with her throughout.
