Finn Butcher
Finn Butcher is a New Zealand Olympic athlete who made history by winning gold in the first-ever men’s kayak cross event at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Growing up in Alexandra, Central Otago, Finn’s passion for paddling began at just nine years old during a local river event.
His dedication to the sport saw him rise to become a global competitor, known for his speed and tactical prowess on the water.
After narrowly missing a spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Finn’s resilience and hard work led him to a breakthrough season in 2023.
He secured New Zealand’s Olympic quota spot by placing 13th in K1 and 11th in Kayak Cross at the World Championships. That same year, he won a silver medal at the World Cup on the Paris Olympic course, setting the stage for his historic Olympic victory.
