The Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand will be hosting Mental Health Awareness Week (MHAW) from 18th to 24th September, continuing a tradition that began back in 1993. Supported by the World Federation for Mental Health, MHAW is a significant event recognised in over 150 nations globally, albeit observed at varying times of the year.
The 2023 iteration of MHAW revolves around the compelling theme: 'Five Ways, Five Days.' Our lives have recently felt like a never-ending whirlwind, constantly bombarded with stressors and overwhelming circumstances. The uncertainties, novelties, and adversities we've encountered have evoked a range of emotional responses. To help navigate through these challenges, MHAW will introduce 'Five Ways for Five Days,' a series of effective strategies designed to strengthen our mental health resilience when it's most critical.
The theme encapsulates the essence of the following Maori proverb:
"Mā te whakarongo, ka mōhio" - knowledge comes through listening
"Mā te mōhio, ka mārama" - understanding comes through knowledge
"Mā te mārama, ka matau" - wisdom comes through understanding
"Mā te matau, ka ora" - wellbeing comes through wisdom
These guiding principles form the cornerstone of our MHAW campaign, encapsulating the mission of motivational speakers during this mental health awareness week. Their goal: to foster an environment conducive to learning, understanding, wisdom, and ultimately, wellbeing. You can talk to us at Essential Talent about securing your speaker for this important week.
