Emily Turnbull is the founder of Chatterbox, a grassroots mental wellbeing initiative helping Kiwi open up through conversation — one chat, one seat, one connection at a time. She’s not a clinician or academic, just someone with lived experience which she shares, alongside practical ways to make talking about the tough stuff feel easier (and more human).

She’s also a senior business leader with over 25 years’ experience in brand, marketing, consumer, leadership and storytelling. Emily worked in media for 20 years here and overseas, led the creation of the MediaWorks Foundation, and today she’s part of the senior leadership team at Trade Me, where she continues to drive impact across Kiwi audience, culture and connection. She also holds a Diploma in Life Coaching.

Emily is sought after as a speaker, having delivered keynotes to large audiences, as well as smaller workshops to teams all around the world.  She weaves in humor, storytelling and interaction, to ensure people are not only informed, but walk away feeling they've been entertained as well.

Emily speaks on:

  • The Power of Chat – how connection, words and everyday chat can transform lives at home and at work. Not only how you chat with others, but the inner chat you have with yourself and the impact it has on your mental health.

Want to extend the impact - sponsor a Chatterbox seat to be installed at your workplace or within your community.  Wrap up your event, by having some of your team members assemble a Chatterbox seat together — a powerful team moment with lasting impact.

When Emily delivers this topic, she donates her speaker fee straight back into funding more Chatterbox Seats in communities across Aotearoa

  • Trends Shaping Kiwi Culture – what’s changing out there (feels like everything at times), how Kiwi are feeling and how people & brands should think about showing up

  • Storytelling That Connects – the power of a story.  How to harness storytelling to drive connection and engagement.

  • Personal brand — your personal brand is your own unique competitive advantage. Why this is so important in a world where social codes are leaning towards genuine connection.

Audiences describe her as engaging, entertaining, relatable, real, and thought-provoking — pretty funny, and always heartfelt.

"Emily Turnbull has been an exceptional keynote speaker for our Ray White New Zealand national sales conferences in both 2019 and 2023, each time delivering to an audience of nearly 800 people. She is consistently well-prepared, insightful, and ahead of the curve, bringing relevant, future-focused thinking that challenges and inspires. In 2023, Emily’s keynote on emerging consumer trends and the rise of Generative AI captivated our audience. Her unique blend of technological insight and human-centred thinking, particularly around AI, burnout, and the irreplaceable value of human connection, was both timely and powerful. Emily’s ability to connect with our industry, while leveraging interactive technology to engage the room, made her one of the most memorable speakers we've hosted. She brings intellect, warmth, and relevance, qualities that resonate deeply with our Ray White members"
